Planning Committee is at Work
In the first phases of creating a community forest, planning is key! This is where citizens envision the recreational, educational, and economic uses of the forest, from now into the far future. In our planning process, the basic questions of who will own the forest and manage it, and how decisions are made with community input, will also be addressed. And of course, there is the need to raise the purchase price!
A planning committee has formed with residents of Easton, Sugar Hill, Franconia, and Landaff, and representatives of ACT. Others are still invited to join this group, or get involved in the more particular issues of recreational management (trails, hunting, motorized use), experiential learning (getting learners of all ages on the land), ownership & governance, and building community support. Working groups of interested people will focus in these areas. If you are interested in joining the planning committee of one of the working groups please contact Margo Connors, Sugar Hill Select Board, 823-8575, Ned Cutler, Easton Select Board, 823-5019, or Rebecca Brown of ACT, 823-7777.
